Why "permanent" rotation matters
Most PDF viewers — including browser tabs, macOS Preview, and some Windows PDF readers — let you rotate the view of a page. This is a display preference only. The file itself stays wrong. Close the viewer and reopen the PDF, and the page is sideways again. Send the file to someone else and they see it sideways.
Love2PDF applies rotation at the PDF structure level. Using pdf-lib, it rewrites the page rotation value stored inside the PDF file itself. This change is embedded in the document permanently. The corrected file will open with the right orientation in Adobe Acrobat, Chrome's built-in PDF viewer, macOS Preview, iOS Files, and every other viewer — every time, for everyone who opens it.
Rotation is stored as a value in each page's dictionary within the PDF specification. Legal values are 0, 90, 180, and 270 degrees. Love2PDF supports all three non-zero rotations: 90 degrees clockwise (for a page scanned with the paper turned sideways), 180 degrees (for a page scanned upside down), and 270 degrees clockwise (equivalent to 90 degrees counter-clockwise).

Common causes of sideways or upside-down PDF pages
Sideways pages almost always come from one of three sources. The most common is a scanner that fed the paper in the wrong orientation — either the page was placed sideways on the glass, or an automatic document feeder pulled it through at the wrong angle. The second is a PDF exported from design software like InDesign or AutoCAD that defaults to landscape orientation when the content is portrait. The third is older documents digitised by third parties, frequently with mixed orientations — some pages correct, others rotated.
