Why does compression need a server?

Browser-based PDF tools can merge, split, and rotate PDFs without any upload because those operations only rearrange existing content. Compression is different — it requires decoding embedded images, resampling them at lower resolution, and re-encoding the result. That image processing pipeline needs native software (Ghostscript) that cannot run in a browser. The good news: once your file is processed, it is gone. We keep nothing. Real compression, not a placebo

pdf-lib and other browser-based tools cannot meaningfully compress image-heavy PDFs. Love2PDF uses Ghostscript — the same engine used by print shops, publishers, and enterprise software — to achieve 60–80% size reduction on typical scanned documents. For operations that do not require compression — merging documents, splitting pages, or rotating scanned files — use our browser-based tools which process everything locally with no file upload.

Three compression levels

Screen quality targets the smallest possible file size — ideal for email attachments and web uploads. Ebook quality balances size and readability for digital distribution. Print quality preserves sharpness for documents that will be printed.

Processed in memory, deleted immediately

Unlike tools that store your files for hours, Love2PDF processes your PDF in server RAM — it is never written to disk. The moment your download completes, the file is gone. We have no copy.

No file size restriction

The files that need compression most are the largest ones — 50MB scanned contracts, 80MB presentation decks. Love2PDF handles them without capping you at 10MB like most free tools.

Yes. Your file travels over an encrypted HTTPS connection, is processed entirely in server memory — never written to disk — and is deleted automatically the moment your download completes. We do not log file contents, we do not train on your documents, and we do not share data with any third party.

100MB. This covers the vast majority of files people need to compress — if your PDF is larger than 100MB, compression will reduce it significantly and the output will almost certainly be under 100MB.
