How Love2PDF compresses PDF files
PDF compression on Love2PDF uses Ghostscript — an open-source PostScript and PDF processor that has been the standard for professional PDF compression for over 30 years. When you upload a file, it travels over an HTTPS encrypted connection to Love2PDF's server. Ghostscript processes it in server memory using configurable compression settings and produces a smaller output file. Your download begins immediately. The original file and the compressed output are both deleted from server memory as soon as the download completes.
Unlike browser-based compression tools that are limited to JavaScript PDF libraries, Ghostscript can apply downsampling to embedded images, subset-embed fonts, remove redundant PDF objects, and flatten transparency — operations that produce significantly smaller files than browser-only approaches.
This is the same compression approach used by professional print services, document management platforms, and enterprise PDF workflows. The output is a standard, fully compatible PDF that opens in every PDF viewer.

How much compression to expect
Compression results vary significantly depending on what is inside your PDF.
PDFs that contain large, uncompressed or lightly compressed images — scanned documents, photo-heavy reports, presentations with full-bleed images — typically reduce by 60 to 90 percent.
